For visitors interested in getting to know more about Native traditions and customs from long ago up into the present, there's no better resource than The Alaska Native Heritage Center. Located in northeast Anchorage, a very short drive from downtown, the center is nestled at the foot of the Chugah Mountains.

Visitors can see a variety of programs on Alaska Native people and their culture in the theatre, as well as browse different exhibits that show how various tribes lived in the past and continue to live today. There are also occasional storytelling and dancing demonstrations. Outdoors, there are recreated dwellings for visitors to see in different historically accurate mini-villages.
