Seated on 62 acres in Northern Florida, are the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, located in Gainesville, Florida, and developed and operated by the non-profit North Florida Botanical Society. Since 1978 the Botanical Society has been adding to the grounds, which are located by nearby namesake Lake Kanapaha, with the facility formally opening in October of 1987. Follow the pathway that winds through the gardens to see the 54 major exhibits, including a Hummingbird Garden, Bamboo Garden, Arboretum, Water Gardens, and the Herb Garden, plentifully supplied with benches and gazebos for opportunities to sit down, relax and take in the pristine surroundings. A large gift shop on the grounds sells original arts and crafts. Dogs are welcomed when on a leash, and picnicking is allowed in certain areas. The Botanical Gardens are open from 9am to 5pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 9am until dusk Saturdays and Sundays. Admissions are $6 for adults, $3 for children, and free for guests under 6 years of age.
