Kapiolani Park, located in lovely Honolulu, Hawaii, has an active preservation society which works to preserve the beauty of its lush flora for present and future generations. A major tenet of the preservation society is keeping the park free and open for use by all, and not bought up by private developers. The park is a destination spot for locals and tourists alike, with its varied array of native trees and plants. Picnickers and beach-goers often choose this location for its nature and quiet atmosphere. A new book, “Kapiolani Park: A History,” tells the story of this gorgeous Hawaiian park, from its inception over 129 years ago. The park was first constructed with land leased to the Park Association by King Kalakaua, which was made into a space replete with trails and footpaths, an area for horse racing, and planned landscaping. Among its beloved historical features includes a Natatorium, a zoo, rowboat adventures, the restored Kaneloa Wetland, and the Kodak Hula Show.
