Kapuzinerberg and the Capuchin Monastery are located in Salzburg, Austria. The Kapuzinerberg can be called a hill with its height of 636 meters, the biggest elevation in Salzburg. Hidden discreetly amongst the flora and fauna of the Kapuzinerberg on the right bank of the Salzbach River, visitors can spot the yellow walls and red-tiled tower of Capuchin Monastery.

Kapuzinerberg is the only place where travelers can get a view of the Alstadt and its historical monuments. The way to the top of the hill is on Steingasse, a small stairway with an imposing Crucifixion statue right above it. From there visitors will reach a small park just beneath the monastery, a perfect place to enjoy the views of the Alstadt and the Festung Hohensalzburg. A large variety of fauna and flora can be found on the Kapuzinerberg, including: chamois, deer, badgers and pine martens.

The Capuchin Monastery with its protruding bastion, the towering cross and the forest in the background is an imposing landmark, clearly visible from far away. The monastry’s inner portal with its late Gothic oak door is an impressive piece of art. It is said that the portal is a relic of the old Salzburg Cathedral. The interior of the monastery church is simple and perfect for meditation. Since 1983 a memorial in honor of the pacifist Stefan Zweig sits beside the Capuchin Monastery.
