The free Karpeles Manuscript Library is the biggest collection of original documents and manuscripts in the world, and got its start in 1983. David and Marsha Karpeles, of California real-estate wealth, established the collection in the hopes of igniting the love of learning in children, and awakening it in all people. There are numerous branches located throughout the country, and the Jacksonville, Florida one makes its home in the neoclassical building of the old First Church of Christ, Scientist from 1921. This library, which also features a children's center and a special antique-book library with pieces dating back to the late nineteenth century, is located in the Springfield downtown area. Notable pieces in the collection include the original draft of the Bill of Rights, Roget's Thesaurus, and the original manuscript of The Wedding March.
