At the edge of Dunloe's Gap in Killarney, Ireland lies a 150-year old family owned
restaurant named Kate Kearney's Cottage. It is in this old tavern that the local beauty
Kate Kearny greeted visitors with her homemade brew of "Mountain Dew" which was so
strong it was said to require heavy diluting just to be drinkable. While her illicit
concoction and her infamous beauty were the magic that drew crowds back in her time
before the Great Famine, today the restaurant draws crowds to its traditional Irish fare,
Irish coffee specialty and "Irish Nights" of singing and dancing.

The cottage is located at the border of Dunloe's Gap, a glaciated mountain pass between
MacGillycuddy Reeks and Purple Mountain. From the cottage one can begin their
journey into the gap on either a pony or pony cart as the road is too treacherous for
modern vehicles. This isolation is what allows the region's natural beauty to remain
untouched as modernity creeps up on its perimeter. Climbers and hikers stop in often to
Kate Kearney's Cottage as Dunloe Gap is well-known for its sandstone cliffs with climbs
of all levels.

Kate Kearney's Cottage and is open for dinner every evening and the coffee shop is open
during the day. To catch the traditional Irish music, come in the evenings between June
and September on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Throughout the year Irish dancers
perform on Monday nights.
