The Katherine Mansfield Birthplace is a museum and is one of the most historic buildings which have a great significance to the heritage of the country of New Zealand. It has been categorized by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust on a category one list because of its significance as being the home of New Zealand’s most celebrated author, Katherine Mansfield.

The house was first owned by Sir Charles Clifford but was made for the father of Katherine Mansfield named Harold Beauchamp. Three generation of the family lived in the house from 1888 to 1893. The house was said to have been made during the depression period in the 1880’s which was attributed to the fact that the house had little ornaments and decors in its design.

The house is located at 25 Tinakori Road, Thorndon in Wellington, New Zealand. The museum is open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed to the public on Mondays, Christmas and Good Friday. Admission fee is NZD $ 5.50 for adults, NZD $4.00 for seniors and students and NZD$2.00 for children.

Tours include the Material Mansfield Tour, the Remembered Places Tours as well as the A Sense of Living Tour. Depending on the tour you choose, you will be shown the various clothing and apparel of the late author, places where Katherine Mansfield traveled in Thorndon an exhibit of photographs of the period with excerpts from the writings of the author.
