Kearney Regional Airport is located about four miles northeast of Kearney, Nebraska, home to just over 27,000 residents and the campus of University of Nebraska-Kearney. Owned by the city, this public airport is served by just one carrier, Great Lakes Airlines.

Kearney Regional Airport traces its beginnings back to the early 1940’s when a handful of cities in Nebraska decided to bid to become the next military airfield for the United States Army Air Force. The airport functioned for a few years as Kearney Air Force Base until 1949 when it was turned over to the City of Kearney.

Great Lakes Airlines, the only carrier servicing Kearney Regional Airport, was founded in 1977 and its corporate headquarters are in Cheyenne Wyoming. The airline is comprised of 35 aircraft and flies to over 60 domestic U.S. destinations including Phoenix, Kansas City, Albuquerque and Las Vegas.
