Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World opened in 1985 from the vision of a Kiwi adventurer, diver, explorer and inventor Kelly Tarlton. It is currently a top-notch tourist attraction which offers a New Zealand Pacific and Southern Oceans experience with different marine lives like sharks, stingrays, penguins, tropical fishes, and native fishes

The attraction features an Antarctic Encounter, home to New Zealand’s only sub-Antarctic penguins with a unique snowcat ride bringing a close encounter with the 80-colony of King and Gentoo penguins. A walkthrough replica of Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s Antarctic hut can also be seen and experienced as well as a glimpse of what it would be like to live 100 years ago in the coldest place on Earth. Underwater World features stingrays and several species of New Zealand’s coastal waters. Animal Adventures include cage-free shark dives, snorkel, and scuba safaris through the Oceanarium. Sleepovers and educational activities are also offered.

Sleepovers run from 7:00 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next day for both children and adults, minimum of 30 and maximum of 70 persons. The attraction is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. also catering self-guided visits and classroom session which must always be booked in advance.

All the areas in the attraction are with wheelchair and disabled accessibility. Parking is free at the carpark and bus drop-off area available.
