Kenmore Plantation

Hotels near Kenmore Plantation, Fredericksburg (Virginia), United States .

The town of Fredericksburg, Virginia, is the site of many important events in the US's history and was at one point home to many important figures in said history. One of the big attractions in the town is the Kenmore Plantation, which was the home of George Washington's sister, Betty, and her husband Fielding Lewis.

The home at Kenmore Plantation (which at one point was an actual plantation; today the property has been severely reduced and the house along with a few surrounding quarters are all that remain) was built in 1775, and it is one of the most impressive homes to remain from the US colonial era due to the fabulous plaster ceiling work that has remained intact up to the present. The Kenmore Plantation was also located near to where George Washington himself grew up, at Ferry Farm. Both sites are operated and owned by the George Washington Foundation.

The Kenmore Plantation is open to the public for tours, and is located at 1201 Washington Boulevard. The hours of operation vary by time of year: from March through October, they are 10am-5pm daily; from November through December, they are 10am-4pm daily. The cost of admission is $8 for adults and $4 for students with ID, and is free for children under 6 years old. Visit the official Kenmore Plantation website at http://www.kenmore.org/ for further details.

The surrounding area of Fredericksburg offers visitors more than ample lodging accommodations, including the Inn at the Olde Silk Mill, the Colonial Motel, or the Richard Johnston Inn, to only name a few.
