Located on the grounds of the historic Churchill Downs racetrack, home of the world-famous Kentucky Derby ever since 1875, the Kentucky Derby Museum honors this celebrated thoroughbred racing event and all its illustrious history, being located at 704 Central Avenue in the southwestern portion of Louisville.

The museum has been open to the public as of 1985. Among the most popular exhibits is the 360-degree theater that puts on HD screenings of documentary "The Greatest Race." In general, the museum focuses on the achievements of participants in this racing event and particularly of winners of the Kentucky Derby, and more generally on the breeding of thoroughbred horses. On hand, the museum has video recordings of every derby since 1918 to the present.

Tours of the Kentucky Derby Museum are available from 8am-5pm Monday through Saturday, and from 11am-5pm Sunday. The cost of admission is unknown at present as the establishment has been closed due to flooding in late 2009; however, stay tuned to http://www.derbymuseum.org/ for upcoming information on the reopening of the museum.
