Keurbooms River Nature Reserve lies 7-8 kilometers northeast of Plettenberg Bay, along the major route of N2. This magnificent natural attraction showcases an estuary and river that overlooks the Forever Resort and Keurbooms Estuary. The reserve derived its name from the Western Keurboom or choice tree. It is a type of a brown-grey tree that has smooth barks and small leaflets.

A dense forest lines the Keurbooms River Nature Reserve, while abundant vegetation predominate the hills fynbos. The reserve covers and conserved a variety of habitats which include the patches of Knysna forests, pristine riverine gorge, estuarine littoral dune fields, and coastal fynbos.

It also features a well-shaded and extensive picnic site situated at the reserve's entrance near the bridge. It is the popular spot where tourists spend a relaxing time together with their family. In addition, three additional picnic sites are available upstream which are nestled within a Knysna-like forest. These picnic sites can only by reached by boat or canoe.

The reserve offers a wide range of exciting outdoor activities including skiing, guided ferry trips, boating, canoeing, windsurfing, and picnicking. In addition, it also showcases a wonderful display of colorful birds like the Knysna Lourie, Knysna Woodpecker and Giant Kingfisher.
