The Key West Art and Historical Society is the leading organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the local culture and history of the Key West community. The society has three separate premises: the Museum of Art & History at the Custom House; the Lighthouse & Keeping Quarters Museum; and the Fort East Martello Museum & Gardens.

The Custom House facility is the most well known and frequented, and it is located at 281 Front Street in Key West. The building is considered to be the most important historical landmark in town, and it alternately served as the local post office, government house and court house over the years. After being abandoned and boarded up, a major $9 million restoration project has left it currently in perfect condition, open to visits from the public.
