Operated by the Key West Art and Historical Society, the Key West Lighthouse Museum (fully known as the Light House and Keeper's Quarters Museum) is one of the principal historical landmarks on the tiny island community. Erected in 1847 and later raised to its full 86 feet of height in 1894, the lighthouse has helped boats steer clear of the treacherous reefs that dot the waters around the Keys.

Visitors are allowed up the lighthouse itself, though it's necessary to deal with the 88 windy iron steps that get you there. The lighthouse itself and the keeper's quarters have recently been completely restored, and tours are possible for members of the public at the following rates: $10 for adults and $5 for children.
