The Khoo Kongsi is highly elaborate as to style and architectural designs. It marked the prominent Chinese influence in Penang in business and trade. It is one of the grandest temples in whole of Malaysia and is considered one of the most important tourist attractions in the region.

The large Chinese clan house is accurately designed and ornamented. It retained its historical and cultural touch with a built-in traditional theatre and the 19th century old rowhouses. Khoo Kongsi is located within the oldest part of Georgetown city, the Cannon Square, where uneven lanes and pre-war houses complete the strong historic attraction.

The traditional clan house is directly associated to the Leong San Tong clan or the Dragon Mountain Hall family whose generation originated from the Sin Kang village in Hokkien province. They were known to be the wealthiest among the locals and where active traders in 17th century.

The complex today represents the miniature village. It depicts the social, financial, and physical activities of the whole community where modern tourists and visitors can almost live the life in the past.
