Killykeen Forest Park is located about twelve kilometres west of the city of Cavan, in the heart of Cavan's lake lands. No matter what your favourite outdoor activities are you will find something in this park suitable for you.
Distinct trails lead into the dark forests where visitors can view the park's fauna and flora, disturbed only by the sound of birdsong and the rippling waters of Lough Erne.
Remarkable in this region are the relatively short walking tours, less than three kilometres, which take you through mixed woodland with a wide variety of birds and wildlife. For angling go to Lough Oughter, known as one of the finest fishing lakes in Ireland, also an excellent location for a day in the wild or a cosy pick nick.
Killykeen Forest Park, with identical lanes fringed with straight pruned conifers, is mere a park than a forest, but the presence of Cloughoughter Castle and the Gartnanoul Court Tomb makes a visit worthwhile if you are in the neighbourhood.
This Site is located on the shores of Lough Oughter which is part of the River Erne system in the Lake District of Co Cavan. From Cavan take the R198 to Killeshandra and at approximately 10 km turn right at signpost. The entrance to forest park is just 5 miles further. From Killeshandra take the R198 to Cavan and at 10 km, more or less, turn left at signpost and travel 5 km to forest park.
