King Abdulaziz Airport is an international airport and aviation facility located 19 kilometers to the north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This airport is known as the third largest air facility in Saudi Arabia and is named after King Abdulaziz Al Saud. The airport occupies 105 square kilometers in space which includes the airport proper, the royal terminal, facilities of the Royal Saudi Air Force, and housing facilities for airport staff.

The King Abdulaziz Airport or KAIA began construction in 1974 and was completed in 1980. It began operations on 1981. It plays an important role during Hajj because of its proximity to the Islam’s holy city of Makkah. Since the King Abdulaziz Airport handles many foreign pilgrims, it features the Hajj Terminal which handles foreign pilgrims exclusively. The Hajj Terminal is around five million square feet in size and is the among the world’s largest air terminals. The terminal is also known for its tent-like roof. The facilities offered to pilgrims by the Hajj terminal include a mosque which can accommodate 80,000 travelers at the same time.

Major airlines found in KAIA include the Saudi Arabian Airlines, Nas Air and Sama Airlines. The airport is accessible via ground transportation in the form of buses and taxis.
