Albany Law School is more than just a world-renowned private institution for aspiring future lawyers: it's also the country's oldest independent law school. A number of firsts have taken place behind the hallowed walls of Albany Law School, including the first student-edited law review and the first steps away from the country's original clerkship program towards a more comprehensive overview of legal education. One of the school's most famous alumni, Kate Stoneman, was the first woman admitted to the New York bar, a landmark move for women in law.

The school's acclaimed approach to legal education has prepared hundreds of young minds for future careers in law, including two U.S. Supreme Court justices and even a United States president (William McKinley). Rather than simply looking back, the school has also branched into the future by opening a Science and Technology Law Center, where current students can attempt to predict the demands that the changes in the science and tech worlds will bring to the courts.
