King House in Shannon, Ireland is a renovated Gregorian mansion built way back in 1700s. It is named after its owner, Sir Henry King who belongs to one of the most richest and powerful families in the area. From a residence for the King family, it became a barracks and a merchants store. Now, after massive renovations, it is one of the grandest museums in Ireland.

Adults and children can enjoy the King House with life-size figures and outstanding sound effects. Children will have fun with activities waiting for them like dressing up, brick vault building and writing with an ink and a quill. Facts and history are delivered in fun and entertaining ways.

There are 8 exhibitions in King House like the Period Rooms, a special exhibit about Maureen O’Sullivan who is a native of the area and starred in Tarzan movies, birth of Ireland as nation, example of 16th century-feast and life and the history of the King family. Visitors should never miss checking out the cold jail cells. There are also a special collection for Irish sculptures and paintings.

Guided tours are available for schools, couch tours, and community associations and societies. Its visitor guides aside from English comes in French, Spanish, Italian and German. Admission is 7€ for adults with special discounts for children, seniors, groups and families. The King House is only open during summer season (April-September) from 10am to 6pm.

The King House offers transit wheelchairs for visitors with disability. There is an on-site restaurant, a craft shop and merchandise store in King House.
