Founded in 1839, Albany Medical College is one of the oldest medical schools in the United States. It's currently affiliated with The Albany Medical Center and its hospital. The school's 500 students have the advantage of studying with a number of esteemed forward thinkers in both the medical and scientific fields, and the school was one of the first to offer courses that effectively combined clinical courses and core scientific disciplines.

The school and affiliated medical center have received a number of awards but from consumers and from professionals. It's received a consumer Choice Award for over 10 years, as well as numerous high-level certifications for excellence dealing with specific medical conditions. The hospital also boasts the fewest mortalities for surgery performed on children with congenital heart defects in all of New York state.
