King's College

King’s College is one of the constituent college of the University of Cambridge, which is located in England. It was founded by Henry VI during 1441 under the name of “The King’s College of Our Lady and St. Nicholas in Cambridge” (shortened by students to the more manageable 'Kings.')

King Henry VI wanted his first college to display the royal patronage and then it was granted feudal privileges along with endowments from king. Initially the college was opened for boys and the buildings of college are now the parts of Old schools. The College’s chapel which stands as an example of Gothic architecture which is believed to be built during time period from 1446 to till 1531.The chapel consists of a fan vault which is regarded as world’s largest along with glass windows and painting of Rubens. This chapel is used for worshipping, college events and concerts. While chapel is termed as symbol of Cambridge which can be seen on city council.

King’s College offers courses in all undergraduate program except for veterinary medicine, education and land economy. The college houses a library which offers books for affiliated students covering the entire range of subjects offered. In addition the college has its own student unions for both Graduates and Under Graduates which assist in the process of decision making towards college. King’s college was ranked at nineteenth based on academic performance during Tompkins Tables during 2008.

The notable alumni of King’s college were Anthony Allen, George Barnes, John Bird, Samuel Collins and Tony Judt.
