Kings Park

Hotels near Kings Park, Perth, Australia .

Kings Park is a public park and popular tourist destination on the western edge of the central business district of Perth, Western Australia. Native Western Australian trees and bushes line the park’s roads while exotic and local plants and flowers can be found in the botanic gardens. Also, many war memorials and statues are scattered all over the park; many of these are tributes to soldiers who served and died during the two world wars.

The park was opened on August 10, 1895 as Perth Park and had around 400 acres of land; later acquisitions expanded the park to today’s 1,000 acres. In 1901, in honor of the ascension of King Edward VII, the park was renamed as King’s Park; the apostrophe was dropped later on.

Those who want to enjoy a guided tour may avail of these for free – at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Various activities, festivals, and events are held in many places of the park. For instance, the Perth Anzac Day dawn service is annually held at the main war memorial while the Wildflower Festival is centered at the botanic garden with various activities scattered all over the park.
