The Kiruna Airport (www.ifv.se/en/kiruna) is situated in northern Sweden six miles from the town of Kiruna. There are two main airlines flying from here, the Norwegian Air Shuttle and Scandinavian Airlines, with destinations worldwide. There is long and short-term parking on site, as well as two restaurants, a gift shop and conference facilities.

Kiruna is the most northern city in Sweden, in the Lappland province, 145km north of the Arctic Circle. It is built on a hill above the River Torne to the North and the River Kalix to the South and is surrounded by the nearby mountains Kiirunavaara and Luossavaara, the latter has a ski slope. The main industry is iron ore mining. The area is very sparsely populated and has good road access via the E10 to Lulea and Norway. Buses connect to the major towns in the Norbotten Province, whilst Swedish Rail connects Lulea and Gallivare. There is also a night train to Stockholm. Tourists often visit the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi (www.icehotel.com). There are many architecturally interesting buildings in Kiruna.

Camp Ripan is a three star hotel specialising in skiing and is situated four miles from the city centre, whereas Hotel Rallaren, also four miles from the city centre offers tourists the opportunity to observe the Northern Lights, from the outdoor hot tub. This hotel is situated on the E10 motorway, close to the bus and rail stations and also offers snowmobile tours.
