Kispest

Kispest lies to the south-southeast of Pest city,Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in 1871 on rural area as a small village, close to the boundaries of Budapest, therefore it was named Kispest (Little Pest). It is also the 19th District of Budapest. In Kispest live about four percent of the 1,696,128 inhabitants of Budapest. The current mayor is Péter Gajda of the Hungarian Socialist Party.

At the time of the Mongol invasion, the settlements in the area were destroyed. Afterwards the area was used for centuries as a royal hunting ground, for example, under Matthias Corvinus. In 1723 the area came into the possession of Antal Grassalkovich I. In 1850 the area was divided into plots. In 1871, a small community was founded in Kispest.
