Dusseldorf, Germany is known as “Art City” with numerous art museums scattered all over the place. One of the most fascinating and newest art museums is the KIT- Kunst im Tunnel. Established and first opened in 2007, this museum displays contemporary art.

The word Kunst means “art” and as its name suggests, this museum is in a tunnel. Kunst im Tunnel is located underneath the famous Rhine Embankment promenade. When visitors take a look at unusual artworks featured inside the museum, it is not unusual to hear cars passing by in the other side of the wall.

Guided tours are free every Sundays at 3pm by Dr. Stefanie Lucci. There are also guided tours available in English. At the entrance of the museum on the promenade is a café and bistro for drinks and meals. Admission is 4€ for adults and free for those below 18. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday (12pm to 7pm) and Sunday and holidays (11am to 6pm).
