The Albert Dock is a dockyard in Liverpool, England which was originally designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick. It was the pioneer structure of Britain to be made of cast iron, brick and stone rather than wood. This attribute of it made it the first fire resistant warehouse of the world. It started functioning from 1846AD.It brought a revolution in those days and was very advanced since the loading and unloading of goods were directly taking place from the warehouses. Later, additional features like hydraulic cranes were incepted on it. Brandy, cotton, tea and silk were some of the prominent cargoes at this dock.

During the World War II it was used as a military base for the British navy. Subsequent air raids on Liverpool in the year 1941 caused heavy damage to the complex. Financially crippled, it was impossible to renovate the complex and as such it was closed down. Merseyside Development Corporation decided to take up the re-innovation of the dock in 1981 and finally it was ready for use in 1988.

Today, Albert Dock stands as a UNESCO designated World Heritage City. It is also very much popular amongst the tourists. Annually, more than four million people visit Albert Dock. The other popular places of tourist attraction nearby are Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Beatles Story, International Slavery Museum and the Liverpool. There is also a Bug World, which has been newly opened where one can go and get familiar with insects and bugs and learn more about them. The Yellow Duck-marine sightseeing tour is also very popular among the tourists.

Holiday Inn and Premier Lodge are two hotels inside the Albert dock. They offer world class facilities to the tourists. In order to gain more tourist attraction the Albert Dock Company Ltd has opened up more bars and restaurants inside the complex. Some popular bars are Baby cream, Spice Lounge and Raven.
