Visitors with younger children and anyone interested in seeing a wide variety of animals should head to The Knoxville Zoo in East Knoxville, where more than 800 animals make their home.

Especially friendly for children, The Knoxville Zoo as a play area for children called Clayton Family Kids Cove, in case youngsters need some time to run around after a day of exploring all of the different animal habitats. The zoo also hosts a number of special seasonal events, including Boo at the Zoo every Halloween.

The Knoxville Zoo is particularly famous in the zoological world for its success rate with animals in captivity breeding, including the ultra-rare white rhinos and red pandas. In general, the zoo has an incredibly diverse collection of reptiles, birds, mammals, and even some exotic animals, like African elephants and African penguins.

The Knoxville Zoo is open daily from ten in the morning until four-thirty in the afternoon. Many East Knoxville hotels are just a short drive away, including The Budget Motel, The Deluxe Inn, and The Red Carpet Inn.
