Knysna has been recognized as one of the premiere tourist destinations on the Southern Cape Coast. The Knysna Heads is perhaps the most striking geological feature situated along the entire South African coastline. Situated 6 kilometers from the center of the town of Knysna, the Heads offer guests with spectacular views of the lagoon and the Indian Ocean.

The Heads in Knysna are dubbed as the most well-known attraction in the area. It showcases two sandstone cliffs that guard the mouth of the lagoon which also connects the estuary to the sea. A lookout has been developed on the Eastern side of the Heads, where tourists can enjoy scenic and breath-taking views of the Leisure Isle, the lagoon, and the majestic town of Knysna. The Western head, on the other hand, features a privately owned nature reserve called the "Featherbed Bay".

The Heads can only be reached by renting a catamaran on the Knysna Waterfront. This is the only vessel allowed to navigate along the dangerous path to Knysna Heads. On your way to the Head, keep an eye for the bird life on the edge of the lagoon. The best way to explore the Heads is by going onboard with a catamaran or going along the hiking paths at the Featherbed Nature Reserve.
