The Kohl Center, located at the intersection of North Frances and West Dayton, is the official home of athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The center officially opened in 1998, and has an approximate capacity of between 15,000-17,000 people distributed over three levels, depending on the floor configuration needed for hockey, basketball, concerts. Before the Kohl Center, which takes its name from its primary benefactor, Herb Kohl, of Kohl's grocery- and department- store fame, Madison sports were housed in the Wisconsin Field House. The center saw an series of improvements in 2005 and 2006, with the addition of a bar and restaurant to the upstairs level and another student athlete center. Court side seats sold for $10,000-$12,500 each before the 2006 men's basketball season. Notable concerts held at the center include Shania Twain, Tina Turner, and Fleetwood Mac.
