Kolonaki

Kolonaki (in Greek: "A small bar") is a district of Athens, Greece, known as a famous shopping area. It is located on Mount Lycabettus Hill on the south-west slope. The district is a prosperous region. Benaki Museum, the Museum of Kykladisen and the War Museum of Athens are located inside, inter alia.
Kolonaki starts at on University Avenue and extends north-northeast, to the Maternity Hospital "Helena Venizelou". Once idyllic, Kolonaki with the typical Athenian yards began to change just after the First World War into a quarter with large blocks. The name of the district comes from the old cylindrical marble column, 2 meters high and 30 centimeters in diameter found in the area and restored. The Athenians of the Turkish-occupied Athens used to make processions and rituals with sacrifices of young calves in order to prevent epidemics or other calamities. The items that these processions implied ended up completing the ritual and the estinan 'Kolonaki.
