The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is the proud home of the second-largest museum in the state, the Krannert Art Museum. From ancient Egyptian art to contemporary art, the museum features many permanent exhibitions, as well as up to 15 traveling exhibits throughout the year. Designed by architect Ambrose Richardson, the museum opened its doors for the first time in 1961.

The Krannert Art Museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm, with extended Thursday hours (to 9pm) and shortened Sunday hours from 2pm to 5pm. Although museum admission is free, there is a suggestion donation of $3 upon entry.
Champaign county is home to not only the University, but the Spurlock Museum, the Orpheum Children´s Science Museum, the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum, and the Early American Museum.
