The scene of a legendary swan song, the Krebs-Peterson House in Carson City was the backdrop for John Wayne’s final film, The Shootist. The Krebs-Peterson House itself was virtually unchanged for the picture, which was nominated for an Oscar in 1976. While set in El Paso, Texas, The Shootist was filmed almost exclusively in Carson City, with a few scenes shot in studios located in Burbank, California being added to the film.

Today, John Wayne’s voice tells the story of the Krebs-Peterson House on the Kit Carson Trail Talking Houses tour, where visitors can take a self-guided tour that includes historic sites broadcasting their respective histories over specific AM radio frequencies.
