Kristiansand Airport Kjevik

Hotels near Kristiansand Airport Kjevik, Kristiansand, Norway .

Kristiansand (Kjevic) Airport (www.avinor.no) is five miles northeast of the City of Kristiansand and serves the district of Agder. The Airport offers flights within Norway and the rest of Europe and almost 50% of the flights from Kristiansand are business flights. There has been some opposition to the suggestion that charter flights be invited to use Kristiansand as passengers currently board using steps from the tarmac at two entrances on each plane, using a tunnel for charter flights would slow boarding down. Services at the Airport include: a restaurant, shops, a café, banking ATM, and car-hire facilities. Airport services are open from 04.30 to 00.30 Monday to Friday, and 04.30 to 22.30 on Saturday. There is also an airport bus and taxi service to the city of Kristiansand. It is important not to confuse this Airport with Kristiansund in mid Norway.

Kristiansand , situated in the Agder region of Norway is the eighth largest city in Norway. It was named after King Christian IV in 1641 and for a long time there was rivalry between Arendal and Kristiansand. The Quart Festival, a rock festival which draws international stars is the largest in Norway, and takes place at the beginning of July every year. It did close down for one year in 2008, due to funding problems and competition with the Hove Festival in Arendal. There is also the Protest Festival in September, which aims to address apathy in politics. Kristiansand has a zoo and amusement park, Kristiansand Dyrepark (www.dyreparken.no), which covers 607,000 square metres. The University of Arendal has its largest campus in Kristiansand.

The Airport is seven miles east of the City and is accessible by ferry to Hirsthals and Hartsholm in Denmark. The road E 18 takes travellers to Arendal, and the Sorlesbaden Railway has connections to Oslo and Stavanger. There are many hotels to choose from, but the Rica Dyreparken Hotel near the Airport in Kristiansand has three stars. Designed on a Noah's Ark theme, it sits on the waterside and has both indoor and outdoor restaurants. A room here costs from NOK 1195. The Radisson Blu Caledonion Hotel (www.radissonblu.com), which has four stars and is situated in the Old Town where there are traditional wooden houses, offers a sea view and costs NOK 995.
