The Albuquerque Little Theatre was founded in 1930 by Irene Fisher, who was Society Editor of the New Mexico Tribune at the time. Originally located in downtown Albuquerque at the KiMo Theater, the operation moved to 224 San Pasquale SW (south of Old Town) in 1936, where it has remained to the present. John Gaw Meem, a noted Southwestern architect, designed the structure which became the first project of FDR’s WPA projects. From this auspicious beginning the Albuquerque Little Theatre has had quite a run. There are several different programs running all the time, including a Family Theater program. The Main Stage is the showcase of the theater’s best productions. On the Main Stage, the 2009 Fall season begins with Shakespeare in Hollywood by Ken Ludwig (Sept. 25th to Oct. 11th). Irving Berlin’s classic White Christmas will make its holiday run from November 27th until December 24th. Dial ‘M’ For Murder will run January 22nd to February 7th, 2010, followed by Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite from Feb. 26th to March 14th. Tickets can be bought online, where donation are also accepted. Tickets on the Main Stage start at $10 for children and go up to $22 for adults. All tickets to the Family Theater are $10. Curtains are at 8 PM Thursdays through Saturdays with Sunday matinees at 2 PM.Nearby accommodations include the Monterey Motel and Econo Lodge Old Town, two affordable options. The Casas de Suenos (on 310 Rio Grande Blvd., SW) and the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town (800 Rio Grande Blvd., NW) are more luxurious options very close to the theater.
