America is a country of reinvention, and no spot in St. Louis has undergone quite the transformation over time that Lacledes Landing has. Originally the site of numerous warehouses and production houses for tobacco, whiskey, candy, coffee, and leather goods, Lacledes Landing has undergone a contemporary transformation and now is a bustling site popular with the tourists and the locals alike.

Where the beautiful brick buildings from the 1700s stood, thankfully, they still stand. Only now, instead of blacksmiths and warehouses, you're more likely to see revelers on their way to the bar or to dinner. The cobblestone streets and cast iron facades are still there, but they house many restaurants, stores, and cafes. A number of office spaces are also occupying the historical district, where it's a usual site to catch a glimpse of tourists enjoying a horse-drawn carriage ride by the building.

Some of the many restaurants and bars at Lacledes Landing include the St. Louis Fish Market, the Feisty Bulldog, the Drunken Fish, and the Morgan Street Brewery. Most are open until rather late.

Many hotels are located in or close to St. Louis' historic district, including the Lumiere Place Casino and Hotels, the Embassy Suites Hotel St. Louis Downtown, and the Drury Inn.
