Named for the oil market, Ladadika in Thessaloniki is what the neighborhood of the
Jewish Quarter after the Second World War. While Thessoloniki had not become part of
Greece until after the First Balkan War, the Jewish community of 50,000 had been part of
the city's history since antiquity. During World War II, Ladadika was nearly liquidated
of its Jewish population who were either sent to work camps or to the death camps in far
away Treblinka and Auschwitz. Currently only a little over 1000 remain in the city.

This vibrantly colored neighborhood is now home to many trendy restaurants, bars,
nightclubs and music halls and it is a short walk to the endless nights of the clubs on the
waterfront. Hotels in the neighborhood start from 50 Euros for the simple
