Laim is a residential district in Munich, Germany, situated in the western part of the city. Furstenrieder Street, between Laimer Platz and Landsberger Street, crosses it. Its close location to the city centre offers easy access to all the tourist attractions in Munich. Within this district, you can find the newly opened Brandhorst Museum, displaying modern art. The most famous shops in Munich, such as Tengelmann, Vinzenzmurr, Hertie, Plus and Rewe are located in this district. On the corner of Furstenrieder and Agnes-Bernauer Streets you can find Laim’s best patisserie and ice-cream parlour – Detterbecks; every Friday you will find a traditional farmer’s market organized close to this crossroads. There are two parks in the area, Westpark and Hirschgarten, which is also the biggest beer garden in Munich. Other things you can see in Munich-Laim are Laimer Anger, the historical centre, St. Ulrich with its 14th century tower, Paul Gerhardt Church. Interim Theatre is a meeting place for variety shows, cabaret and music, while Rex Kino is the oldest cinema in Munich. U5 underground stops at Laimer Platz but there are also buses and trams connecting the district to the rest of the city. Park Hotel Laim Munich is close to the Westpark and the Nymphenburg Castle. It is a four-star hotel, furnished in Bavarian style, with every room distinct from the other and equipped with modern facilities, including a workplace and internet connection. The Nymph’s Castle, is a Baroque palace which was use as the summer residence of rulers of Bavaria. The stables house a museum of ancient carriages that have witnessed important historical events. Located within the palace complex is the factory producing Nymphenburg porcelain.
