Mid-way between Seattle and Spokane, about 75 miles south of the Canadian border, Lake Chelan runs along the eastern front of the Wenatchee National Forest. The Lake itself is over 50 miles long, at its widest point extending 1.5 miles from west to east, and in some places, is almost 1500 feet deep, the third deepest lake in the United States. The Southern end of the lake is part of the Lake Chelan State Park, and the northern end, while inaccessible by car, can be reached by boat, float plane, or by hiking.

The Lake Chelan Valley is home to approximately 10,000 residents, with the population expanding significantly during the summer tourist season. Overlooking the North Cascade Mountains, Lake Chelan gives visitors access to and beautiful views of the rugged terrain of central Washington. Popular activities include boating, water sports, golfing, and fishing, with visitors also being drawn to the area by famous apple orchards, and more recently, vineyards, which occupy 150 acres of the valley.

About three hours by car from either Seattle or Spokane, or a two hour drive from the Wenatchee Pangborn Airport, which is about 80 miles to the south, the Lake Chelan Valley is easily accessible from the population centers of Washington.
