Dunlewey is on the direct road west from Letterkenny to the seaside communities of Bunbeg and Derrybeg, which (with Dunlewey) form the parish of Gweedore. It is 40km from Letterkenny and 12km from Bunbeg in Ireland
The Dunlewey Lakeside Centre(Ionad Cois Locha) is an impressive lakeside farm museum and visitor centre located on the shores of Dunlewey Lough in the shadow of the mysterious and haunting Poison Glen. Mount Errigal, the highest mountain in the County Donegal provides a wonderful backdrop to this spectacular location.
There is a lot to do with story-telling boat trips, traditional music evenings, weaving demonstrations and guided tours of a weavers cottage among the activities the centre offers.
Other attractions include an adventure play area, an audio-visual display on Dunlewey and a restaurant and tea-room. Children will also enjoy feeding the farmyard animals, which include red deer.
The Dunlewey Lakeside Centre offers something for all the family - weaving displays, a lake with paddle boats and canoes, an indoor play area, lakeside walks and pony trekking. There are demonstrations in carding, spinning and weaving wool as well as guided tours of the restored house and farm, storytelling and boat trips on Dunlewey lake. There is an adventure playground, pet animals, tea room, restaurant and craft shop.
Around the centre are many tourist attractions such as Errigal, Donegal’s biggest and best known mountain that rises to 749 metres (2466 ft), Lakes Nacung Upper and Lower that together form a five-mile long lake in the shadow of Mount Errigal and also other natural landscapes.
