The Lamu Archipelago is located close to the northern coast of Kenya. It is comprised of several islands – the largest of which are Lamu Island, Manda Island, and Pate Island. Lamu Island has the largest town. Still, it is in Manda Island that the airport was created.

Manda Airport, being the only serving the Lamu Archipelago, is also called Lamu Airport. It is owned and operated by the government. It is used by Air Kenya for flights to and from Nairobi-Wilson and Lama. It is also used by Kenya Airways for flights to and from Malindi. Some airlines also operate charter flights to and from the airport – 540 Air Services and SafariLink.

Those who want to visit the nearby islands can catch a boat ride across the channel – with Manda Island to Lamu Island travel time being approximately 10 minutes only.

Attractions in Lamu Island include the town itself which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Museum, and Old Fort. Hotels and accommodation options on the island and in the archipelago include the Lamu House, Lamu Palace Hotel, Chale Paradise Hotel, and Stone House Hotel.
