Lanxess Arena

Lanxess Arena is a multi-purpose hall in Cologne, Germany. Lanxess Arena was built between 1996 and 1998 and was designed by architect Bohm. The official opening was on 17 October 1998 as part of a concert by Luciano Pavarotti. The Lanxess Arena has its own mascot called "Areni" that occurs at all major events. With up to 20,000 seats (varies by event and is dependent on the stage set-up) and 83,700 square feet of floor space, a lot of restaurants, modern stage, audio and lighting technology it is suitable for many types of events such as sports, concerts, musicals, conferences or meetings.
The hall is the home ground for two teams: Cologne Sharks (Ice Hockey / DEL) and VfL Gummersbach (Handball / 1 Handball League). In the Handball World Championship 2007 Men's eight games were held in the arena, including the final. After the Ice Hockey Championships 2001, the 2010 IIHF World Championship is the second world tournament being held in the arena. Also World Wrestling Entertainment has so far visited four times the arena in 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007.In these four events, the WWE superstars were able to attract a total of about 41,000 spectators in the arena.
The very first concert in the arena was on 1 October 1998 the Swiss pop star DJ BoBo. This was followed on 5 and 6 October 1998 by two concerts of the British pop group Depeche Mode as part of their "Singles 1986-1998 tour”. Even Bruce Springsteen has already appeared three times each in a sold-out arena, most recently in 2007 with the E Street Band. In addition, the Lanxess Arena has hosted a few meetings held by German companies. These include companies based in nearby Lufthansa German Post AG and Deutsche Telekom AG.
