Located on the west coast of Cyprus near the city of Polis, isolated Lara beach is the site
of a Turtle Station that is responsible for the conservation of up to 10,000 hatchlings of
Loggerhead and Green Turtles per year. Visitors are encouraged to volunteer on their trip
with the turtle station if they are interested in the conservation of these endangered
species. The seclusion of the beach is a result of the difficult roads connecting it with
Polis that require a four-wheel drive vehicle to pass, but its location on the rugged
coastline surrounded by gently rolling hills makes it a great place to hike to. Lara Beach
is a protected area and is thus visitors will not find many restaurants, bars and resorts that
are more easily found in other parts of the island.

While Lara Beach is not directly next to a resort town, there are many accommodations
to the south that include everything from small villas and apartments to three and four-
star hotels with pools and all the amenities starting at a reasonable 25 Euros per night.

Currently Cyprus is divided into two parts-the Greek South, and the Turkish controlled
North- and the border is patrolled by the UN. The town of Polis is located on the Greek
side of the border. It is not an easy trip to cross back and forth between the two sides due
to the restrictions on travel. As a result of the great Britain's nearly 80 years of rule on
the island, driver's must take care to stay on the left side of the road.
