Larchill Arcadian Garden

Larchill Arcadian is located at only 40 minutes drive from Dublin. This is much more than just another historic garden in Ireland. It is truly unique and the only complete “Ferme Ornée” in Europe (an ornamental 18th century farm and landscaped garden).

“Ferme Ornée” gardens were the most fashionable gardens of the mid 18th century, the first time that the natural landscape and rural features had been included in landscape design. At Larchill there is a gothic farmyard with stables, pigsties and dovecotes. Rare Breeds of sheep and cattle graze the parkland, together with Llamas and Emus. The Larchill Arcadian Garden has ten follies, the most important being the Shell Tower in the walled garden, the Foxes Earth and the lake island castle Gibraltar, a miniature copy of a fortress on the Rock of Gibraltar

The follies are linked by parkland walks which are interspersed with statuary, ornate bridges and gazebo seats. There are wonderful views across the lake to the Dublin Mountains. The flower and water meadows delight visitors of all ages with dragonflies, frogs and wildflowers.

The Walled Garden has been restored to its initial design from the 18th century, with wide perennial borders, box hedging, water features, ornamental herb and vegetable gardens.

The entrance fee for the Larchill Arcadian Garden is of 7.5 Euros per adult and 5.5 Euros per child. Family (2 adults and 4 children) tickets are also available at 27.5 Euros.
