Larnaca Port

Hotels near Larnaca Port, Larnaca, Cyprus .

Built by the Ottomans in 1625, the fort in Larnaca was once the main line of defense for
this southeastern Greek Cypriot city. During British rule beginning in 1878 the fort was
used as a prison, but since then, the city has opened the fort as an archeological museum
that exhibits artifacts from when then city was named Kition during classical times.
Modern day Larnaca has several famous historical figures attached to it, among them are
the philospher Zeno and Lazarus, the man said to have been resurrected by Christ who
then came to Kition and was named as the first bishop and later the patron saint of the
city. In addition to the museum, the fort also houses an open-air garden theater used
during the summer for musical events.

Though Larnaca is not one of the better known Cypriot resorts towns, it is the site of an
enormous amount of archeological sites dating back to a century before the time of
Christ. It also is easily accessed by air through service to one of only a couple of
international airports on the island which is located just outside the city.
Accommodations in Larnaca are not of the typical resort type since the town really just
isn't set up or marketed like that, but this makes the prices somewhat more reasonable
even if the services are not necessarily comparable to the resort areas. Prices start around
30 Euros off the beach.
