A regional airport in Launceston, Tasmania, Launceston is situated in a rural setting fifteen kilometers from the Launceston City Centre. This airport is the fastest growing airport in Tasmania, and along with Hobart International Airport, are the only Tasmanian airports to reach one million passengers activity per year. Unlike Hobart, Launceston has no curfew and recorded having 1.1 million passengers in the 2007-08 financial year.

The Airport is now Australia’s twelfth busiest airport handling more than one-point-one million passengers in 2008. Currently undergoing a $20 million dollar renovation, the Launceston Airport will have the largest expansion in the history of terminals. This renovation is going to double the size of the terminal upon its completion. The airport has three café and retail outlets which are Hudsons Coffee, Delaware North and one newspaper and gift shop.

A 1200 square meter apron level gate lounge for passengers awaiting their departure will be built along with a one hundred square metre public lounge floor extension. This will bring the public lounge to about eight hundred square metres. The departure area is going to feature just one single location for all airlines. QantasLink, Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Tiger Airways Australia will have a total of twelve checking-in counters.
