The Alexandria Museum of Art (AMoA), which covers the entire 900 block of Main Street on the waterfront of Alexandria, Louisiana, was opened in 1977. Its home, the Rapides Bank Building of 1898, has been recorded on the National Historic Register. Added to a number of works on loan from around the world, AMoA’s permanent collection includes works by contemporary Louisiana artists as well as an extensive collection of North Louisiana Folk Art (the state’s largest). The museum hosts a variety of events and functions, with its extensive grounds containing storage facilities, archives, exhibition galleries and public gathering halls. In 1998, the grand foyer, a new addition, was added to welcome guests upon arrival to AMoA. The museum is currently open from Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and on Saturdays from 10AM to 4 PM (information as of 09/09).
