The Alexandria Zoological Park features over 500 animals which roam on 33 acres of ground and is located at 3016 Masonic Drive in Alexandria, Louisiana. The zoo is situated on park land acquired by the city in 1918 and originally was located at nearby Bringhurst Park, where Alexandria Zoological Park was established in 1926. While many fantastic changes have taken place since those original days, the zoo still provides educational and recreational experiences for all visitors. The animals and their habitat available for viewing represent some of the finest species, including white-tailed deer, alligators, eagles, bears, tigers and more. Popular exhibits include the African exhibit (featuring impressive lions) and the Louisiana Exhibit where the local species are able to be viewed in all their grandeur. This exhibit won the AZA award for Significant Achievement in 2002. The zoo is open seven days a week, from 9 AM to 5 PM and is closed only three days a year: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Admission is $3 for adults, $1.50 for Senior Citizens and $2 for children 4-12 years old. Children under 4 enter free (Information as of 09/09). Discounted group rates are available. Accommodations nearby include the Ramada Alexandria, the Super 8 Macarthur (a budget option) or the elegant Radisson Hotel Bentley in downtown Alexandria.
