The Alexandrisky Theatre is the oldest Russian national theatre being founded on 30 August 1756 and is located in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The building of the theatre is part of UNESCO world heritage site historic centre of Saint Petersburg and related group of monuments and dates from the beginning of the 19th century, being designed by Carlo Rossi. the Alexandrisky Theater had undergone through a general reconstruction during 2005-2006, which resulted in a restoration of the historical image of the building’s interiors and the theater turned into one of the most technically perfect theaters. The greatest public figures of the Russian state are remembered on the theatre’s walls.

The theater’s modern repertoire focuses on Russian classical drama, such plays as “Boris Godunov” by Pushkin, “Nedorosl” by Fonvinzin, “Three sisters” by Cehov and “The Marriage” by Gogol but it also includes foreign classics as “Hamlet”by Shakespeare and plays by Wild, James, Moliere, etc., so the culture lovers will not be disappointed. Besides, many works by modern playwrights with new-sprung actors starring are offered by the theatre’s repertoire.

The Alexandrisky also hosts performances by visiting dance companies and the acclaimed Russian Ballet and another important thing, it is one of the rare theatres that stays open in summer, offering top quality performances.

The theater can be reached using the underground, Gostiny Dvor station being the closest underground station and also using trams, busses and trolley busses.
