Occupying one whole city block in the northern central area of Santa Barbara, California, the Alice Keck Memorial Garden is a gorgeous urban oasis that centers around an artificial pond. The park is one of the most frequented and appreciated in the city, and is considered a center for ecological learning and observation: in fact, the Alice Keck Memorial Garden plant species have virtually all been carefully selected because they require low amounts of water to survive. It's a lesson in sustainability right in the middle of the city!

The Alice Keck Memorial Garden has been part of the city since 1980, following the demolition of the former El Mirasol Hotel structure. Not only are the many plants with their extravagant foliage a big attraction, but furthermore people (especially kids) are frequently jockeying to observe the enormous fish swimming lazily through the water, or perhaps one of the turtles basking on a rock in the sun. Adjacent to the Alice Keck Memorial Garden is another city park, Alameda Park, where more green space and a few facilities can be found.
