Alki Beach

Hotels near Alki Beach, Seattle, United States .

Running from two and a half miles from Alki Point to Duwamish Head, in the westernmost district of Seattle, Washington, Alki Beach is a popular city park during Washington’s summer months. Alki Beach was the landing point for the first white settlers of Seattle in 1851, when Chief Seattle and his tribe welcomed them by assisting the settlers in the building of a cabin to stave off the cold.

The 135 acre city park was completed in 1907, five years after Alki Beach has grown in popularity to the point that the electric street car lines of Seattle had extended to the beach. The tide cycles of Alki Beach result in a wide expanse of sandy beach, and this in combination with the fact that the beach is partly protected by a seawall results in tranquil waters and wide spaces for visitors to stroll. The beach features a boat launch, fire pits, picnic sites, and walking, jogging, and bicycle paths.

Alki Beach is located at 1702 Alki Avenue Southwest, and as a public beach and park, is free to all visitors. The park is open from daily 6 A.M. until 11 P.M. from April 15th through October 1st, and from 4 A.M. until 11:30 P.M. from October 2nd until April 14th. Local hotel accommodations include the Edgewater Hotel, Fairmont Olympic Hotel Seattle, Best Western Pioneer Square Hotel, and the Seattle Marriott Waterfront.
